| So, I had originally thought it would be fun to bounce around Europe for a couple weeks with Peter after the wedding, but the closer the wedding got, the less appealing that idea became. First of all, our available time shrank until it was hard to fit more than a couple destinations in without feeling overly scheduled and rushed. Secondly, while Europe is great, I've spent the last 4 years sight seeing here, so it feels rather like daily life for me, and not a unique honeymoon experience. And, thirdly, the closer the wedding gets, the less I want to do anything but rest once it's over. So, that led me to desire a beach holiday. And, since October is no longer beach weather in Europe really, I started looking at options elsewhere. |
| The Maldives have always intrigued me. I have a few friends who have been there and everyone who returns calls it paradise. Being right on the equator, the weather is in the 80's year-round. The 26 natural atolls which make up the Maldives, contain some 1200 coral islands, of which 200 are inhabited, while an additional 90 have been transformed into resorts. We will be staying at the One & Only Kanuhura, a 5-star resort located on its own private island along the eastern rim of Lhaviyani Atoll. The resort includes a world-class spa, a fitness center, freshwater swimming pools, a PADI dive center, a water sports center, tennis courts, a squash court, and numerous restaurants. There is much to do, should we want activity, but lots of beautiful deserted beach, when we don't. |
| We'll be staying in our own beach villa directly on the sand with a private beach area extending out to the lagoon. The villa has air-conditioning, broadband internet, private verandas, and all the usual 5-star amenities, including an unusual oversized bathroom partially open to the sky with a huge stone-sculpted jacuzzi bathtub and an outdoor shower and garden. |
