Taxi Services - Taxis are prevalent in Heidelberg and one advantage to using them is that they are permitted to drive in pedestrian-only areas, directly to the front door of your hotel. One disadvantage to using them is that gasoline costs around $8/gallon here, and that cost is passed on to you, so taxi travel will be far more expensive than you may be accustomed to in the US. Taxis are usually lined up day & night in University Square, but if you want one at a particular place or a particular time, it's good to call. Your hotel reception can probably call for you, but for convenience here are a number of options. I can give personal experience or recommendations, the few times I've taken a taxi I just took the next available at University Square or the Hauptbahnhof.
